Analysis

This section will contain detailed analyses of stocks of interest, as well as thoughts on general business and industry trends. Here are some stock names that I am thinking of writing about in the near future:

  • Whole Foods Market
  • Johnson & Johnson
  • Johnson Controls
  • VF Corp.
  • eBay

Each analysis will center on areas that I think are most important for that particular investment. Some stocks I'll concentrate on their cash flows, dividends and buyback program, while others I'll look at financial growth, market penetration and growth prospects. I will rely primarily on the company's SEC filings and other publicly available data. I will try to formulate an independent conclusion from this data.

These are some of the broad areas that I may consider:

  • Industry Dominance - including sustainable competitive advantage, market share, barriers to entry, etc.
  • Financial Strength - free cash flow, working capital management, growing margins, track record of meeting estimates
  • Management/Ownership - insider ownership/trading, compensation, communication quality
  • Growth Prospects - market runway, historical innovation success, product pipeline, R&D expenditures relative to peers, etc.
  • Valuation - intrinsic and extrinsic value, dividends, stock buybacks, analyst expectations, recent trading activity, etc.
